About "It's A Grape Life"

From Food Trucks to Wine Trucks

Being a cook and chef in my early years and then a waiter as I worked my way through University I was always given the opportunity to have an appreciation for wine and food. The restaurant had a small wine list but would always bring in special wines and with that came the “wine meetings” from a company representative. Not so much wine tastings but more product knowledge and how to present and pour a bottle of wine. After a few unsuccessful attempts to make my own wine, I decided to leave that to the professionals. Being involved with high end food trucks the progression to Wine Trucks was a natural.

Having spent a decade in the Okanagan Wine Country of British Columbia, I had some of the best wine in the world at my back door. Now living in Europe I am surrounded by the worlds best wine and some of the most scenic wineries I have ever seen. I have probably the most generous wine distributor just a short walk away who is always letting me know when they carry a new wine and is always anxious to pour quite a large tester anytime you go by. Their choice of the wine they bring in is constantly changing so I get to sample new and interesting wines from winemakers all over Europe.

For the last 7 years I have searched for BC Wine all over London and Munich and have mainly found Ontario Ice Wines are the only product from Canada carried here. That is about to change. Wine from BC and the rest of Canada is just starting to make an appearance to rave reviews. Perhaps Canada's Wine Industry just needed time to grow into it's role. Production is extremely small in comparison to other countries but what there is, it is very good. With changes to government policy it is possible to sell our wine globally where before it was mostly within our own borders.

I am in an unique position living in Europe now. I speak a few languages. I know the wine industry. I have successfully exported our family food trucks and carts around the world. I have a Network of food and beverage people already in place. What started as a whim 7 years ago when I told the liquor store in London that I was on a mission to bring BC Wine to the UK and Europe is finally coming true. It is a bit of a magic moment to see all these Canadian Wineries being represented at Prowein in Germany every year now. Hopefully it is just the tip of the Iceberg. Prost!

Wines Quotes

Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.
Paulo Coelho
Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.
Ernest Hemingway
Alonso of Aragon was wont to say in commendation of age, that 'age' appears to be best in four things - old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read.
Francis Bacon, 1624
One should always be drunk. That's all that matters...But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk.
Charles Baudelaire
